Milk, Money and Madness

This is a fascinating book. The authors first cover the beliefs and practices that affect breastfeeding (such as duration of breastfeeding and the use of wet nurses). The next section details the amazing properties of breastmilk and describes historical attempts at artificial feeding, including the beginning of the infant formula industry. The last part of the book explains breastfeeding policies and why there is a need for them. Every breastfeeding woman should read this book to give them an understanding of how the past is influencing the way we look at infant feeding practices today. This is an eye-opening read.
