Destyn's Birth

Well, where to start, I was due on November 20th; what's a due date!LOL

My husband and I had decided to have our little baby in Kamloops, a 2 day drive from our home. Both of our families live in Kamloops, and we were feeling the need to be close to family, and we weren't comfortable with one of the doctors in this small community. Rick took 3 weeks off of work, and we made the long trip to Kamloops with Gage and Anja 1 week before our due date. I had all ready been having many contractions on a regular basis a week before we left, and 2 days before we left, I had passed a fair bit of mucous. I figured, it wouldn't be long when we got to Kamloops. Ha Ha! The second week I saw the dr; Destyn had turned OP; Here I was a week overdue with an OP baby! And every morning I would wake up contracting like crazy at 4am thinking; this might be it! I spent the next week doing everything I could to turn my little one, and when I was 12 days over I went back to the Dr, and she had turned. The dr did an internal at my request to see if anything was happening because Rick had to return to work soon! I was about 1-2 cm. She began to talk about induction, and I looked at her like she had 4 heads, and just said no. She was going away for a week, so I was going to have a different doc. She had told me if I went on the weekend, I would get a great doc. Boy was she correct!

So Saturday I started passing lot's of bloody show, and my contractions were becoming stronger, but not painful. The doctor on call that weekend phoned me that night to see how I was making out, and said he would keep his fingers crossed for me! I went to bed Sat hoping something would happen! I woke up Sun moring at 4:30am with strong contractions at 5min apart and then at 5:30am I lost my mucous plug. At 6:30am after finishing many Christmas ornaments (my labour project); I went back to bed to see if I could get some sleep. I woke up at 8:30am with the old contractions I had been having for the past 4 weeks! I finally just told myself, that I had better stop wishing for it and just give in to the fact my baby would come when it wanted to! So all day Sunday I cooked and cleaned, and took my kids to a movie. I had agreat day with my sister and her family, and just got my mind off of it. My sister and I sat up and talked until 11:30 that night, and then we went to bed. At 12:25am a very strong contaction woke me up, and then 2 minutes later I started having another one, and I stood up and felt Destyn's head literally fall into my pelvis with a thunk (the only way I can describe the feeling!). I went to the bathroom and had a couple of contractions, and I knew it wouldn't be long. So I threw on my wool socks, and a t-shirt over my nightie, and off I went to the hospital with my kids and my sister. My husband and friend would meet us there.

My contractions remained 2 min apart, and during the ride, I began to vocalize. We arrived at 1am and the Dr was there waiting. I introduced myself in between contractions, and the nurses were great. They really gave me my space. They didn't even take my blood pressure without asking first. When I arrived, I asked for an internal to see where I was at, so Rick could figure out approximately how long he had to get the kids to his brother's and back. I was all ready 5-6cm. I continued to vocalize, and I could only stand for all of my contractions. The amazing part about this labour was that I had no back pain! It was heaven! I had about 50% of the discomfort I had with my first 2. At about 2:20am my water broke, and then with the next contraction I was ready to push! I got myself to the room and I thought I would lie on my side to push, but I just couldn't, so I was on my knees with my sister in a head lock! LOL. By 2:33am Destyn Tory had arrived! It was awesome. I had asked the staff to help me control the pushing phase, and the Dr was great. It really slowed down this time, and I had a minor tear. (big huge tear with the 2nd baby) As soon as Destyn was out, the dr passed her to me between my legs, and I layed her on the bed below me and began to rub her back to get her breathing. It was amazing. She began to breathe, and then she looked up at me and sighed. It was so sweet. The Dr then asked me whenever I was ready, he would cut the cord; it had stopped pulsing, so I said he could go for it. He was so suppportive of my wishes; he didn't suction, and he didn't to anything without asking me first if I wanted it. My plancenta delivered within 5 min, and Destyn was nursing before that.

My sister Kristina and friend Sheri were great labour support, Sheri takes great pictures! Rick missed the actual birth by about 5min, but he's not overly fond of the whole birth thing; he likes the baby, but the other stuff makes him a bit queezy. Destyn is an amazing new addition to our family, and we can't imagine life without her! She is all ready smiling a bunch and gave her brother her first giggle yesterday! We love her to bits!
