Cloth Diapers

Amity's World ia a great place to buy/trade diapers once you know what you want.
Mother's Nature is a great place to bid on and buy diapers (once you know what you want). Another auction place (gets less traffic but same great selection as MN) is Born To Love.
A new place that is starting to get some cloth diaper traffic is Mom's Life. (It is slower to load than the other two - and I have a cable modem).
This is an email list that discusses diapers and give reviews of many of the diapers out there - CDReviews.
This is a message board where you can leave anonymous reviews Sewing4Kids.
Another review board (has MANY diapers here) is at Born To Love.
Here is a TON of information on cloth diapering - Born To Love's Cloth Diapering Articles.
What I look for in a diaper is good fit, customer service and resale value. Right now, the high resale value diapers are Poochies, Cuddlebuns, Babymoons, Elkebellas and Cotton Candies (there could be more, this is off the top of my head). You might also notice that many of these diapers are not available - but you can get on an announcement list or a waiting list. I have tried all of the above diapers except a Cuddlebun - unless you can get those direct from the WAHM they just go for too much money at auction.
Here is a mini lesson in terminology. A prefold is a diaper service type diaper. A flat is a much larger square of a diaper and thinner than a prefold. A contour is like a prefold, but in an hourglass shape. A fitted diaper is shaped kind of like a disposable diaper, and it snaps or velcros shut. A pinnable is exactly like a fitted, but doesn't snap or velcro close - you close it with diaper pins. The cheapest (new) go from flat, prefold/countour, pinnable, fitted. You can expect to pay anywhere from $5 to $10 a new diaper and at auction, the sky is the limit.
Fabrics. For long term, as cute as they are, I'd stay away from flannel - except with newborn diapers - a newborn changes sizes so quickly that longevity is not an issue. You'll find the cutest prints in flannel though. You will find fabrics of cotton fleece (sweatshirt fleece), Birdseye, Cotton Interlock, Jersey Knit, Knit and Flannel as choices for your diapers. Some knits in the long term will become holey (like a t-shirt) but they are SO soft it is hard to stay away from them.
For covers, I can't give too much advice. They are a world unto themselves, but we don't use covers here - except at night. The only cover I'd use at night is a Dancing Bear Bottom Soaker - it is the shape of an Aristocrat (wool soaker) but in fleece. During the day, the only cover I've ever used is cotton or wool Biobottoms. YOu can get them new at Biobottoms and pay $18 each (but, believe it or not, they will last forever and are GREAT quality) or pay less (and get the same quality) at Carrot Top Resale Shop (she changes her inventory from time to time) or trade or buy them at Amitys or MN.
Here are some links. I'm starting with my personal favorites.
Poochies You absolutely CANNOT go wrong ordering a poochie. If the fit doesn't work for you, you can sell these diapers (even USED) at incredible prices. I just saw ONE diaper go for $27 at MN. My personal favorite is the terry. I'd say that the Babymoon knit is a better fit than the Poochie knit, but Jennifer has just started making knit diapers so I'm sure that will change soon.
Babymoons Beg, borrow or steal to get these diapers. They are so soft - not incredibly absorbent, but a great fit, super trim and pretty. Resale value is EXCELLENT on these diapers. I've sold used ones for prices higher than I paid new.
Kissaluvs The only diapers Melanie has been making lately have been sweatshirt fleece (cotton fleece) and looped terry. Beware of one thing - if you buy off Amitys or MN, and it is a size 1, verify when it was made. Melanie changed her pattern recently and the old size 1's will fit much longer. The new ones will not go to 30 lb. These are GREAT diapers and perfect for babies with chubby thighs. Not the most absorbent diaper in the world (in my opinion).
Elkebellas The ONLY diaper I used at night until recently when Caroline's thighs outgrew her diapers. I'm heartsick looking for replacements. These are really great nighttime - absorbent - diapers.
Pumpkin Patch (I've never used any of Farrah's diapers, but she has INCREDIBLE customer service and gets great reviews on the email list (cdreviews)).
The rest of these are all great diapers and WAHMs but I don't think I can do a commentary on each one. If you are really interested, join the cdreview list and then ask on the list for opinions. We LOVE to give opinions.
Cloth Baby (I have 4 of these on order - I think these might be my new favorite but I haven't received them yet.)Well, that should start you. This last link is a listing of lots of WAHM sites.
